LINES OF LIFE ACUPUNCTURE FOUNDER, OWNER, ACUPUNCTURIST
Chelsea Horenstein is a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.) in the state of New York, and Board-certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Chelsea holds a Master of Science, with a focus in Classical Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM). She continues to train and practice under the Daoist lineage of Classical Chinese Medicine practitioner, Jeffrey Yuen, furthering her the exploration and usage of the Complementary Vessels and Chinese Medicine practice.
In obtaining her Master’s degree, the program entails over 4,000 hours of rigorous, comprehensive, and practical training in Biomedical and Clinical Sciences: Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, Biology, Biochemistry; Chinese Medicine and Philosophy: Acupuncture, Needle Technique; Chinese medical texts of Antiquity, Medicinal Massage, and adjunctive modalities such as Cupping, Gua Sha, and Moxabustion.
Previous to completing her Master's, Chelsea obtained a BFA in Film from SUNY Purchase Film Conservatory, and went on to work in the documentary and narrative film and television industry for many years. Production, perhaps surprising to some, was an easy bridge to holistic medicine as it shares some of its best qualities - communication, collaboration, and the ability to affect subtle yet deep changes by working with the many moving elements that create a unified whole.
Chelsea was drawn to study this medicine while suffering from frequent headaches, though the determining factor was after one incident of getting treatment for a sprained ankle that occurred on a shoot. Having one day at home to recover before going back out and knowing there would be long days of standing, acupuncture was what not only allowed her to head back to the field, but also provided lasting healing. Having grown up in a background of holistic thought and natural home remedies the decision felt natural and well suited to Chelsea’s desire to bridge various worlds in a more substantial way.
In addition to treating patients in private practice, Chelsea has been committed since 2011 to volunteering with various groups such as Global Healthworks, Integrative Health Project, and Healer 2 Healer, to establish and provide sustainable healthcare in rural, impoverished, and underserved areas such as the highlands of Guatemala. In partnership with the Barbara Ford Peace Center, acupuncture, herbal therapy, medicinal bodywork, reiki, self-empowerment workshops, and yoga are utilized.
Chelsea brings compassion, commitment, patience, communication, and a detail-oriented nature to all her work, and feels passionate that Chinese Medicine can be a resonating, less invasive, and positive implement in the care of one’s health.
